Raised garden beds- Provide all students with accessibility that he or she is able to use in order
to stand close to the garden bed to cultivate the soil, make trenches in the soil and spread seeds evenly. Students are able to watch seedlings grow into fruits and vegetables.
Wheel Chair accessible garden - was made by Mr. Daria the wood shop
teacher . He crafted a salad table for non-ambulatory students who are interested in participating in growing vegetables and fruits.
Butterfly garden- Provides a total learning experience for the student. He
or she is able to watch many different butterfly navigate to the host plant . The habitat attracts and feeds hundreds of butterflies. The Boy Scoot Troop from our school planted the garden . They earned badges for their participation.
Composting- In order to reduce and re-purpose waste students compost. At the end of the lunch period, all student volunteers, grades ninth through twelfth, collect compostable scraps on a tray and deposit it in a compost bin outside. Students monitor the compost bin. This school year 2013 ,our students are provided with fruits/ vegetables daily and they collect scraps from breakfast and lunch. Students and staff also brought in kitchen scraps from home . Students are able to make their carbon foot print smaller by actively reducing waste to increase the compost supply by taking scraps outside for garden fertilization.
Recycling- All students, grades ninth through twelfth recycle ink cartridges, pack them into boxes and send them to the Funding Factory. This project started four years ago and will continue well into the future. The school earns money from ink cartridges sent to the Funding Factory. Every Tuesday students and staff collect recycling, this includes cardboard, plastics and paper.
