Celebration:
School participated in the turn out the lights for Earth Hour and this year in Power Down Day.
In 2012 the school celebrated Earth day by participating in earth Hour. the entire school tuned out the lights for an hour to conserve energy and the Baltimore Energy Challenge lead a lesson in Energy Conservation.
Every Friday this school year students and teachers have held a power down day. At 9:45 am every Friday an announcement is made and all classrooms switch off their regular classroom lights and move to areas that are illuminated by windows or the emergency generated lights that re always on.
Earth Day is always an all school activity and an annual event. In 2013 all students participated and the school boy scout troop helped lead the activities. This included car washes, school yard and parking lot litter cleanup and students and staff reused flowerpots and planted fresh annuals in them to take home. Flowers were also planted on the school grounds and boy Scout students earned Merritt badges for their work. Planning for this years Earth day has already started an all school cleanup day is planned and the students will be installing paths by first laying down a path of recycled cardboard to kill the Bermuda grass and then build wood chip path ways.
Students and staff make daily morning and afternoon announcements to remind the entire school to save energy by tuning off lights and recycling. The school has a Green Bulletin and Family Newsletter that showcases the green work of the students. The entire school community celebrates their work!
